Smoking, Drinking, Eating (for Philip G.), 2016

Recovered vagrant ocean plastic from Greece, Hawaii, California, and Costa Rica, wire; 76 x 80 x 10 inches.

Human appetite and self-destructive tendencies are drivers for the endless production of plastic and its often unintended side effects and after life. Much of the production of plastic by the plastic industry is for productions of human oral consumption and the endocrine disrupting chemicals in plastic have been linked to obesity and cancers. This work pays homage to Philip Guston as a self-aware and self-destructive artist whom I highly revere as an artist of unrelentingly honest self-reflection.
